Information Technology Manager

Working at Service Objects

Since our founding, Service Objects has worked to be the data science company that puts people above all else. First, we created an amazing place to work and then we created products that make life better for everyone that uses them.

We are guided by focused core values, high integrity, purpose, and a high energy culture. Our mission is to provide our clients with tools so they can be sure every customer record in their system is as genuine, accurate and up-to-date as it possibly can be.

We’ve been in the data science business for over 20 years: we’ve never taken VC and have been profitable since day one. We plan to double that success over the coming years with the release of new products that continue to reshape data science. This is your opportunity to bring your initiative to a growing team and build a career at a company with a legacy of creating products that reduce fraud and eliminate waste.

Information Technology Manager

Service Objects is growing and we are looking for an experienced Information Technology Manager to help us improve and maintain our datacenters. We have some big plans for our entire API delivery ecosystem. All of those plans will necessitate continuous upgrades on our network that runs on Xen and Windows Server. That’s were you come in.

Brief Requirements

  • We care more about a high proficiency level than years of experience, but we expect at least five years of experience working in information technology. Familiarity with a hybrid & distributed SaaS environment that is always growing and evolving.
  • You should have confidence with the management and automation of the following tools and technologies: Microsoft Server, Linux Server, Office 365, Azure Active Directory, AWS, mobile device management, wired and wireless networking and pfSense administration.
  • You’re a manager-type who can improve support workflows from beginning to end, ensuring proper reporting is adhered to with a bias towards designing system automation.
  • Your excellent time management skills make juggling multiple projects, priorities, and meetings look easy.

That is a short intro to what we are looking for. First, you need to know if you’ll even like working with us. We have one overarching requirement when it comes to joining our team: our Core Values have to really click with you.

If you’re smiling when you read our Core Values, you’ll probably fit right in at SO.

We live our core values every day, and we mean it when we say we provide a happy and healthy work experience. We have a team full of truly exceptional people… the kind you’ll be excited to work with.

What’s in it for you?

We care deeply about employee wellness and benefits. You will receive a comprehensive leave and wellness benefit package, including:

  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your entire family
  • 11 paid holidays
  • 16 days of paid time off
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Remote, hybrid and in-office work options
  • Short & long-term disability insurance
  • Employee assistance plan
  • Life insurance
  • Adoption assistance
  • Bonus plan based on company revenue
  • Education assistance
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) options
  • Home internet and wireless phone allowance

Competitive Compensation

The starting salary range for this position, based in California, is $104,427 - $115,254 annually. We will consider an individual bonus for your successful effort and have a company-wide quarterly bonus program based on revenue, which you’re in on from day one. SO wins, you win—that kind of thing. Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California as well. The starting salary range is provided for those hired in California.

What Success Looks Like

One goal is to make sure that every contact record in every system is accurate and genuine – and for the whole planet. No small chore, right? In 2022, we’re focused on making our battle-tested infrastructure even better with more redundancy at every level of the stack. Projects include creating new strategy… for planning, assessing, designing and promoting our technical process improvements of our key workflows related to our API delivery system as well as improvements with our SSO systems.

Now, Back to You Our New IT Manager

You’re a systems administrator with at least five years of experience designing, configuring and delivering SaaS apps at scale (not just workstation setup). And you’re an expert in at least one modern virtualization platform (ESXi, Xen, etc.).

You’re not necessarily the “Programmer” where you work, but you certainly understand application development well enough to aid in architecting and maintaining scalable solutions. We host on Microsoft Windows Server, so experience there is certainly required, but experience with Linux or other popular platforms is a big plus too.

Some leadership experience is required as well, meaning you have enough management skills to maintain a one-year plan, maintain and develop KPIs, design, build and maintain highly reliable systems, manage your department budget, and develop your team. We work in small cross-functional teams where you will find yourself responsible for the ongoing improvements on both the back-end servers (databases and data stores), as well at the front-end servers (Confluence, IIS, Wordpress, etc.).

To be successful in this role you’ll need to:

  • Have at least a degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent work experience.
  • Stay laser focused on our long-term organizational goals and assist with identifying effective strategies that will scale as our technology stack becomes more complex, without losing sight of every. last. transaction.
  • Manage all aspects of our systems, including audits to ensure hardware and software comply with standards, policies and privacy guidelines.
  • Monitor our platform and related system operations to assess potential risks.
  • Understand how to provide mentoring and give technical guidance to more junior team members in IT.
  • Comfortable developing and maintaining technical documentation, SOPs and dashboards of critical workflows and systems.
  • Make us laugh. Bring energy and enthusiasm to the IT department and be central in evaluating new technologies, threats and industry best practices to optimize efficiency and minimize vulnerabilities.

This is a full-time, exempt position. However, we want everyone to have a happy life outside of SO, and we seldom work more than 40 hours per week. There are occasions were things get busy and you may be expected you put in some extra time. We work hard and smart so we can stay in this for the long haul.

Since early 2020 we’ve been a fully remote team and we plan to stay permanently remote, so you can live and work wherever you want (with a reliable internet connection) in the United States. You’ll be working with folks predominately on the West Coast of the United States for a significant portion of your time. Location doesn’t influence your productivity, but it sure does help with communication.

How to Apply

To apply, please e-mail us at and attach the following three items:

  1. Include your favorite knock-knock joke (plenty of room for creativity here).
  2. Include a PDF of your cover letter explaining why this position is of interest to you.
    • What attracted you to this position? (This is not about what attracted you to our validation services).
    • We’d love to get your perspective on building a remote workforce. What’s yours?
  3. If you have a resume, attach it in PDF form. If you don’t have a resume because you aren’t even sure you’re looking to change jobs, that’s fine! Please include a list of your work and education history.

We’ll send you a confirmation email once you apply. Please add that email to your safe sender list so that future emails come through.

First-off we think it’s really important to work with happy people. If you have a sense of humor, an optimistic outlook and a smiling face more often than not, we want you.

We also want to make sure you are healthy. We support this by providing awesome health benefits, flexible hours and vacation time. When you’re happy and healthy, it means you care about yourself and care about others too.
