Systems Administrator

Service Objects is growing, and we are looking to fill a key position as a Systems Administrator in the IT department. This position will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of our technology systems. You will be exposed to some of the best tools, utilities, and services available. You want to learn something cool? We want you to, also! Make a difference by implementing elegant solutions to complex technical problems and help us deliver our custom SaaS solutions to our customers.

The duties of this role include managing our virtualized server environments, ensuring all systems are online and running efficiently, and providing exceptional support to our users.

Brief Requirements

  • We care more about a high proficiency level than years of experience, however we expect at least three years of experience in systems administration, helpdesk management, and/or network administration in a corporate environment.
  • Experience with the following tools and technologies: VMware and Xen virtualization, Windows and Linux servers, Microsoft 365 suite (Teams, Azure AD, Endpoint Manager), networking (switching, routing, protocols), and IT system logging tools.
  • Desire to learn and support new systems and applications, work in a team-based environment, and collaborate on projects to manage and improve our IT infrastructure.
  • Familiarity working in a SaaS or DevOps environment is highly desired.

Competitive Compensation

The average salary range for a candidate living in the State of California is $81,733-$87,806. Actual salary will be determined by the candidate’s city and state of residence and transferable years of experience to this position. Salary may be higher or lower than listed once residency and experience is determined by Service Objects. We may consider an individual bonus for you for successful effort and have a company-wide quarterly bonus program based on revenue, which you're in on from day one. In 2022, we’re focused on making our battle-tested infrastructure even better with more redundancy at every level of the stack. Projects include continual documentation of the infrastructure, improving performance at our data centers, and enhancing our business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.

Looking forward, you’ll also help improve our workflows to deliver top-notch solutions for our users. We’ve been growing. A lot. We’ve worked hard to create teams that are autonomous and results-driven, but we’ll never be ones to rest on our laurels. As our Systems Administrator, you will help maintain a highly functional and highly available network and pool of servers. We provide our custom SaaS solutions to customers, therefore retaining 99.999% service uptime is incredibly important. We are powered by a combination of Windows and Linux servers, so previous experience and/or willingness to learn is key.

To be successful in this role you'll need to:

  • Provide friendly and top-notch end user support to the team.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve helpdesk tickets in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  • Maintain the software suite of applications.
  • Install, configure, and maintain user accounts (Active Directory, Microsoft 365) and workstations in our MDM system (Intune Endpoint Manager).
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers and network across multiple data centers.
  • Assist with supporting network by managing firewalls, switches, routers, and VoIP systems.
  • Ensure system security by patching workstations and servers, maintaining backups, monitoring endpoint protection, administering file share and application permissions, and updating our MFA system.
  • Maintain 99.999% system uptime + redundancy by proactively monitoring logging systems, server status, load balancers, and maintaining processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Build and maintain internal logging tools and dashboards which range from simple server-rendered pages to complex in-depth monitors.
  • Collaborate with development team to schedule, plan, and perform system updates, including the transition from staging to production environments.
  • Establish and implement standards for computer operations for compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades to systems, servers, and network.
  • Document and update knowledge base and IT procedures.
  • Be adaptable, passionate about technology, and eager to learn new skills.

This is a full-time position. However, we want everyone to have a happy life outside of SO, and we seldom work more than 40 hours per week. There are occasions where things get busy and you may be expected you put in some extra time. We work hard and smart so we can stay in this for the long haul.

Since early 2020 we’ve been a fully remote team and we plan to stay permanently remote, so you can live and work wherever you want (with a reliable internet connection) in the United States. You'll be working with folks predominately on the West Coast of the United States for a significant portion of your time, due to the nature of collaboration and communication, a West Coast candidate is strongly preferred.
