Oftentimes, when you call the number, you will get an operator or switch where you can ask for the person you’re looking for. If the phone number resolves to a residential address, all of the contacts may be roommates.
If you need to verify that a particular person is at that phone number, simply search for that person in the list of contacts. They are not in any particular order when they are returned.
