Overview

What is it?

DOTS Address Validation–US (AV-US) is an XML Web Service that can be integrated with any Web-enabled platform in order to validate and standardize US addresses in real time, at the point of entry.

Why use DOTS Address Validation?

About 15% of U.S. mail, (or over 90 million pieces) is deemed undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA). Some of the reasons for this are: Incorrectly spelled or formatted city names, missing or incorrect ZIP codes and missing suite/apartment numbers. What happens to UAA mail? Returns, delays or one-way trips to mail recovery centers (MRC)--- wasting your time and resources.

DOTS Address Validation - USSM improves the processing and delivery of mail within the United States by pre-standardizing addresses to the U.S. standard, validating them to ensure deliverability, and appending data that is useful to the USPS for sorting and delivery (such as Carrier Route, and Barcode Digits).

What does it do?

AV-US validates and verifies US addresses by checking them against a continuously updated database of CASS-Certified USPS® valid street addresses as well as other public and proprietary online databases. . It returns parsed, standardized, and corrected addresses, appending ZIP+4 codes, barcode digits, PO Box numbers, pre and post-directionals (e.g. “W Main St” or “N Main St W”), county and state codes, and much more, depending on which operations are employed.

For instance, our “ValidateAddressesWithRDI” operation utilizes the USPS’s RDI (Residential Delivery Indicator) data to identify whether a given address is classified as a residential or business address. In addition, we utilize the USPS SuiteLinkTM data to append Suite numbers to an address based on business name.

To improve residential delivery rates, our “ValidateAddressWithDPV” (Delivery Point Validation) operation verifies that addresses are deliverable, down to the mailbox level (including apartments,) and appends any missing information.
